Camp Alexander is now hiring staff for it's 2019 summer camp season.We are looking for people who enjoy being in the outdoors and are willing to teach kids a variety of skills and providing awesome programs.  Anyone men, women, registered scout, or not a registered scout is able to apply and work at Camp Alexander!  You must be 16 or older in our to be a paid staff member.  We do offer a program for people ages 14 and 15 to work at Camp Alexander for a minimum of 3 weeks to get the camp staff experience!

Staff Salaries

All positions include roam and board while at camp!
  • 16 and older positions - $200/week
  • 18 and older positions - $320/week
  • 21 and older positions - $425/week
All staff must be First Aid and CPR certified by time of employment.  Some positions do require additional certification.

Positions Available

Program Staff (Age 16 or older) - Program staff teach Merit Badges to scouts and help with running camp activities. Program staff are needed for the following areas: Aquatics, Fishing, Nature, Handicraft, Outdoor Skills, Hiking/Biking, First Class Center, Rock Climbing, Shooting Sports, Film/Photo.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach the activities and merit badges assigned to your program area
  • Support the overall activities of Camp Alexander out side of program areas.
  • Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
Requirements:
  • First Aid & CPR certified

Assistant Aquatics Director (Age 18 or older) - The Assistant Aquatics Director Director helps the Aquatics Director operate the pool and lake program areas.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee either pool or lake program operations.
  • Manage 3-4 Aquatics Staff in providing Boy Scout programs.
  • Teach program merit badges to scout attendees.
  • Update requirements completed into Camp Alexanders online record system on a daily basis.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the BSA
  • Must be able to lead a group of 3 to 4 staff members.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.
  • Lifeguard Certification either by Red Cross, YMCA, or another credited organization.

Assistant Rifle Director (Age 18 or older) - The Assistant Rifle Director assists the Camp Alexander Rifle Director in operating rifle programs.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Rifle Director in teaching Rifle Merit Badge to scout attendees.
  • Assist with maintaining and cleaning Camp Alexanders .22 rifles.
  • Will assist no more than 8 scouts at one time while the rifle range is in operation.
  • Assist the Rifle Director with maintaining requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Instruct scouts in proper shooting techniques.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the BSA
  • Must have some knowledge in shooting sports.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Assistant Climbing Director (Age 18 or older) - The Assistant Climbing Director assists the Climbing Director in providing rock climbing programs.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Climbing Director in setting up climbing and rappelling routes.
  • Teach proper climbing and rappelling technique to scout attendees.
  • Assist the Climbing Director in maintaining requirements completed on a daily basis.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the BSA
  • Must have some knowledge in rock climbing.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Quartermaster (Age 18 or older) - The Quartermaster operates the Camp Alexander Dining Hall during meal times and is responsible for checking out equipment troops may need.
Responsibilities:
  • Get units ready to serve during meal times and provide instruction for clean up after meal time.
  • Dismiss all units in an orderly fashion.
  • Work with the food service provider to ensure food is properly handled while being served.
  • Check out equipment for units per request during specific times during the day.
Requirements:
  • Must be able be able to lead large groups (200 people) during meal times.
  • Able to speak loudly and be organized.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Trading Post Staff (Age 18 or older) - Trading Post Staff help operate Camp Alexanders retail store.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate point of sales register system.
  • Assist with maintaining product inventory on a weekly basis.
  • Achieve weekly sales goals.
  • Operate Trading Post area in a clean and organized manner.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must have some knowledge in retail stores and operating registers.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.
Additional bonuses will be given if weekly sale goals are met.

Handicraft Director (Age 18 or older) - The Handicraft Director oversees the handicraft program area. Programs include: art, basketry, woodcarving, leather work, and pottery.
Responsibilities:
  • Train, lead, and supervise Handicraft Staff to teach merit badges related to program area.
  • Ensure program area is operating a clean and quality program.
  • Maintain and update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Work with Program Director to ensure area has all program supplies needed.
  • In addition to overseeing the area, the Handicraft Director will also be teaching activities and merit badges.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Nature Director (Age 18 or older) - The Nature Director oversees the nature program area. Programs include: environmental science, nature, forestry, astronomy, fish and wild life, geology, mammal study, and weather.
Responsibilities:
  • Train, lead, and supervise Nature Staff to teach merit badges related to program area.
  • Ensure program area is operating a clean and quality program.
  • Maintain and update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Work with Program Director to ensure area has all program supplies needed.
  • In addition to overseeing the area, the Nature Director will also be teaching activities and merit badges.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Outdoor Skills Director (Age 18 or older) - The Outdoor Skills Director oversees the outdoor skills program area. Programs include: camping, wilderness survival, orienteering, pioneering, Indian lore, first aid, emergency preparedness, and search and rescue.
Responsibilities:
  • Train, lead, and supervise Outdoor Skills Staff to teach merit badges related to program area.
  • Ensure program area is operating a clean and quality program.
  • Maintain and update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Work with Program Director to ensure area has all program supplies needed.
  • In addition to overseeing the area, the Outdoor Skills Director will also be teaching activities and merit badges.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

First Class Center Director (Age 18 or older) - The First Class Center Director oversees the First Class Center (FCC) program area. FCC is a program area that teaches new scouts the basic skills of scouting and focuses on requirements to help them earn their First Class rank. Basic skills include, knots, lashings, first aid, hiking, and more. A majority of these scouts are attending summer camp for the first time and will be in 6th or 7th grade.
Responsibilities:
  • Train, lead, and supervise First Class Center Staff to teach merit badges related to program area.
  • Ensure program area is operating a clean and quality program.
  • Maintain and update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Work with Program Director to ensure area has all program supplies needed.
  • In addition to overseeing the area, the First Class Center Director will also be teaching activities.
Requirements:
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Film and Photo Director (Age 18 or older) - The Film and Photo Director oversees the photography and movie making programs for Camp Alexander.
Responsibilities:
  • Train, lead, and supervise Film and Photo Staff to teach the assigned merit badges to the program area.
  • Ensure program area is operating a clean and quality program.
  • Maintain and update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Work with Program Director to ensure area has all program supplies needed.
  • In addition to overseeing the area, the Film and Photo Director will also be teaching activities.
  • Take photos and videos at different times and locations throughout camp to help with the marketing campaign of Camp Alexander.
Requirements:
  • Must know how to operate cameras and Go Pros.
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Archery Director (Age 18 or older) - The Archery Director oversees the archery program for Camp Alexander.
Responsibilities:
  • Train, lead, and supervise Archery Staff to teach the Archery Merit Badge to scouts.
  • Ensure program area is operating a clean and quality program.
  • Maintain and update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Work with Shooting Sports Director to ensure area has all program supplies needed.
  • In addition to overseeing the area, the Archery Director will also be teaching activities.
Requirements:
  • USA Level 1 Archery Instructor.
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Hike and Bike Director (Age 18 or older) - The Hike and Bike Director oversees the hiking, biking, and mountain boarding program for Camp Alexander.
Responsibilities:
  • Train, lead, and supervise Archery Staff to teach the assigned merit badges in the program area.
  • Ensure program area is operating a clean and quality program.
  • Maintain and update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Work with Program Director to ensure area has all program supplies needed.
  • In addition to overseeing the area, the Hike and Bike Director will also be teaching activities.
  • Maintain and repair Camp Alexanders mountain bikes.
Requirements:
  • Must have some knowledge in hiking and bike maintenance.
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must be organized and have a positive attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

Outback Staff (Age 18 or older) - Outback Staff run Camp Alexander's High Adventure program. Program includes, hiking Pikes Peak, rock climbing, white water rafting, mountain biking, outdoor cooking, and Leave No Trace.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead scouts in the activities listed above.
  • Rock climbing and white water rafting are outsourced through outdoor rec companies. Staff are expected to participate but not operate those programs.
  • Lead scouts in hiking Pikes Peak and mountain biking.
  • Lead scouts in outdoor cooking for meals throughout the week.
  • Entertain scouts during down time with team building and outdoor games.
Requirements:
  • Must have some knowledge in hiking and biking.
  • Follow all rules and regulations provided by the Pikes Peak Council.
  • Must have positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.
  • Wilderness First Aid certified.

Office Manager (Age 21 or older) - The Office Manager manages the Business Office at Camp Alexander. The business office is the central point of camp is a high traffic area and is the number one area where adult leaders come for questions about camp.
Responsibilities:
  • Organize staff and unit paper work to be held at the office.
  • Process any outstanding payments for units.
  • Assist the Camp Director in any administration paper work
  • Run the Business Office during posted office times.
  • Assist the Trading Post Director with cash procedures.
  • Operate the Business Office in a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Answer phone calls that come to camp and direct them to the appropriate people.
  • Print records for units and staff and help with major print jobs.
Requirements:
  • Must have knowledge in operating a register.
  • Must be organized to keep staff and unit files in order.
  • Must have positive and welcoming attitude.
  • First Aid & CPR certified.

ATV Director (Age 21 or older) - The ATV Director oversees Camp Alexander ATV program.
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure program area is following the rules and regulations of the Boy Scouts of America National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP) and the ATV Safety Institute
  • Plan, lead, and execute the program provided by the ATV Safety Institute
Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience operating ATV's
  • Ability to attend the ATV Safety Institute Instructor Course. Dates for training will be based on availability.

Trading Post Director (Age 21 or older) - The Trading Post Director oversees Camp Alexander's retail store.
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Trading Post is maintain weekly sales goals.
  • Take weekly inventory.
  • Work with the Council Program Director on supplies to be ordered.
  • Mange a staff of 2-3 employees.
  • Ensure Trading Post is operated in a clean and very organized manner.
  • Have a high focus on customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge in retail.
  • Must know how to operate a cash register with a point of sales system.
  • Focus on welcoming atmosphere.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Outback Director (Age 21 or older) - The Outback Director operates Camp Alexander's high adventure program. The high adventure program includes hiking Pikes Peak, mountain biking, rock climbing, and white water rafting.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead scouts and staff in participation of high adventure activities.
  • Rock climbing and white water rafting our outsourced through professional companies. The Outback Director will work with these companies to ensure a quality program.
  • Work with kitchen staff for food supplies for meals throughout the week.
  • Lead cooking meals in an outdoor setting.
  • Plan fun program activities during down time in the evenings.
  • Lead a staff of 3-4 employees for the program.
Requirements:
  • Must have experience in hiking 14ers and some knowledge in mountain biking.
  • Must be able to spend 9 weeks in an outdoor camping setting supervising scouts ages 14 and older.
  • Trained in Leave No trace or knowledge in the area.
  • First Aid, CPR, and Wilderness First Aid certified.
  • Must be able to attend a week long training. Dates to attend will be discussed during interview process.

Rock Climbing Director (Age 21 or older) - The Rock Climbing Director oversees the climbing program at Camp Alexander.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach climbing and rappelling techniques to scouts.
  • Set routes for climbing and rappelling.
  • Update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Keep program area and program supplies organized and clean.
  • Lead a staff of 3 to 4 employees that help with the rock climbing program.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude working with kids ages 10 to 17.
Requirements:
  • Must have knowledge in climbing and rappelling
  • First Aid and CPR certified.
  • Must be able to attend a week long training. Dates to attend will be discussed during interview process.

Aquatics Director (Age 21 or older) - The Aquatics Director oversees the pool and lake programs at Camp Alexander.
Responsibilities:
  • Train staff to teach aquatics based activities and merit badges
  • Ensure pool and lake are following BSA and Colorado standards.
  • Update requirements completed on a daily basis.
  • Keep program area and program supplies organized and clean.
  • Lead a staff of 2 assistant directors and 6-9 aquatics staff.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude working with kids ages 10 to 17.
Requirements:
  • Must have knowledge in aquatics
  • First Aid, CPR, and lifeguard certified. Lifeguard can be through Red Cross, YMCA, or another accredited source.
  • Must be able to attend a week long training. Dates to attend will be discussed during interview process.

Welding Director (Age 21 or older) - The Welding Director oversees teaching scouts Welding Merit Badge.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach scouts Welding Merit Badge.
  • Ensure program area is operated in a clean and safe manner.
  • Work with Camp Director on supplies needed for program.
  • Assist the Camp Ranger with maintenance projects around camp during evening activities when no welding programs are being conducted.
Requirements:
  • Must have knowledge in welding.
  • First Aid and CPR certified.
  • Must be able to teach kids (ages 14+) with no welding experience in a positive and effective way.
