Biography

It is a great day to be in Scouting!

I am a former military dependent, but I grew up in Colorado Springs before traveling throughout Army installations in Europe and later settling down in my hometown of El Paso, Texas. After graduation, I enlisted in the United States Army, becoming a third generation Soldier in my family.  I returned to Colorado Springs  and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.  After two combat tours to Iraq, I once again relocated to the Denver Recruiting Battalion then reassigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum to serve another combat tour in Afghanistan - serving as a Forward Observer, I retired with twenty years of honorable service.

Now, I serve as a District Executive for the Pikes Peak Council for both Frontier District & ScoutReach District.  Part of my responsibilities as a Professional is to guide, mentor, and assist both the Youth and Adults in reaching their personal Scouting potential as well as their unit.

My family is a Scouting Family, my wife (Gina) a former Girl Scout and Girl Scout Leader - volunteers where she can to support Scouting and my son (Giovanni) is a Life Scout. When I am not Scouting professionally, I also volunteer as Unit Leader in the ScoutReach District of Colorado Springs.  Other Scouting positions I have held are:

  • Scoutmaster
  • Assistant Scoutmaster
  • Merit Badge Counselor/Instructor for Shotgun & Rifle Shooting Sports
  • Shooting Sports Area Director(Massawepie Scout Camps in New York)
  • Lone Scout Friend and Counselor (Cub Scout & Boy Scout)
  • Unit Commissioner
  • Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner
  • Cubmaster
  • Pack Trainer
  • Unit Religious Emblem Coordinator
  • Den Leader (Tiger Cubs to Webelos)

I am also a Wood Badge recipient and member of the Bear Patrol from course N3-397-14.  I also hold a Master's in Commissioner Science and have the following certifications:

  • Certified Shotgun & Rifle Instructor - National Rifle Association
  • Range Safety Officer - NRA
  • Chief Range Safety Officer - NRA
  • Basic Life Saving Certification - American Heart Association
  • Leave No Trace Trainer -  LNT
  • Emergency Management - DHS/FEMA

I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland University College and will be working toward a Masters in Social Work with the goal of attaining my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

It has been my pleasure to share a little bit about myself and thanks for wanting to know more about me.  "

Thank you for what you do for Scouting." - James.
